SOMERSET, NJ - On Tuesday, May 14, Venus Jewelers hosted the Jewel of Franklin event with Somerset County & Plainfield YMCA.

Owner of Venus Jewelers, Dr. Peter Stavrianidis, and his staff were thrilled to provide the venue for Franklin Township advocates to gather, celebrate and share their vision for the proposed  Franklin YMCA. More than 30 guests including Mayor Phillip Kramer, attended the event.

"The gathering radiated enthusiasm for the many benefits a YMCA would bring to all residents in Franklin Township," Stavrianidis said.

Community champion and Principal of MacAfee Road School, Bill Grippo, welcomed guests and spoke to the benefits of having a YMCA in Franklin.  

“Franklin deserves a YMCA," Grippo said. "As a true community center, it would be the jewel of Franklin." 

President and CEO of Somerset County and Plainfield YMCA, David M. Carcieri expressed his commitment to bringing a YMCA to Franklin Township. Currently, Somerset County has six YMCA locations

“The Y’s mission is to strengthen and celebrate community," Carcieri said. "It’s a place where all are welcome – with programs that help individuals at every age to thrive. With the support of the Franklin Township community, we are committed to pursuing the possibility of building a YMCA in Franklin.”

“For the 40 years we have been in this community we have supported numerous community projects," Stavrianidis said. "This happens to be one of the most useful and exciting projects and we will work hard for its completion."
