SOMERSET, NJ - Oct. 2 is "National Coffee With a Cop Day" an event created in 2011 by members of the Hawthorne Police Department.
The event is designed to provide cops and the community a chance to meet in a casual setting to communicate ideas, concerns, and to develop relationships.
"Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police," according to the coffee with a cop website. "However, over time the character and composition of our nation’s communities have changed due to shifting demographics, more commuters, and the introduction of different communication methods such as websites and social media."
Franklin will be unique to other towns because it will have multiple active locations to ensure optimum engagement with the public.
PJ's Pancake House at 4581 Route 27 Kingston will be hosting the event from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Moe's Southwest Grill at 120 Cedar Grove Lane will be hosting the event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Confectionately Yours at 3391 Route 27 will be hosting the event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"This is a great opportunity to meet and ask questions of your local police department," FTPD Sgt. Sean Hebbon said in a social media post. "We look forward to seeing you there."
Hebbon also urged residents to visit the FTPD booth on Sept. 28 during the Franklin Day Festival.
