SOMERSET, NJ - Rutgers Preparatory School celebrated its class of 2020 with a drive-in movie-style graduation at the Ukrainian Center Sunday evening.
“Our regularly scheduled 254th commencement was originally set for Sunday, June 7th and we do not want to let our seniors down,” Dr. Steven Loy Headmaster at Rutgers Prep said prior to the commencement. "We are recognizing the Class of 2020 with a Drive-In Movie style Graduation."
Seniors and their families arrived in decorated cars and were greeted by security personnel equipped with PPE to ensure social distancing rules were adhered to.
Attendees viewed a pre-recorded commencement ceremony complete with a video presentation of speeches, awards, and the presentation of diplomas by Dr. Joseph Chodl.
The commencement included a traditional speech by Senior Class Speaker Gurnoor Virdi, he had been selected by the senior class. Senior Nolan Patel presented the senior class gift and Tylan Porterfield presented the Class of 1970 Award.
The class of 2020 is expected to get together during the summer to continue celebrating their milestone.
“In this way we acknowledge the graduates on their Commencement Day, and we expect to follow up with additional celebrations on campus in the weeks to follow that recognize and celebrate the Class of 2020,” Loy said.
