It is an honor to introduce myself to the Franklin Township as a Council-At-Large Democratic Party candidate. My name is Sivaraman "Ram" Anbarasan and I currently serve as a Commissioner at the Franklin Township Sewerage Authority where I am part of the Construction and Personnel Committees. After 40 years of private and public sector employment as well as successful startup information technology businesses, I am now ready to dedicate my experience and energy totally to public service. My technology and higher education experience along with graduate degrees in engineering and business management, have prepared me well to be an effective Councilman-At-Large.
I believe in the principles of the Democratic Party which align with the working people of this great country and they resonate with me personally. As an immigrant from India, I am thankful to the United States of America for welcoming and allowing me and family to call it my country. I believe all of us deserve an equal opportunity to succeed in our career and life and that no one is above the law. As I reflect our current Council’s administrative record in this Township, I am reminded of a popular saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it”. Our municipal taxes have gone up a mere 0.5% in the past three years put together! I would be so fortunate to join this administration to continue their prudent financial management if I am elected.
Our township is very diverse and as an Asian American I will add an important dimension to the Township Council. Having been in the Township for five years and in Somerset County for over 30 years, my goal is to help continue to make Franklin Township one of the most livable places in the State.
Workforce and Economic Development is a passion for me. Having worked for New Jersey’s Community Colleges for the past 15 years, I have brought in nearly twenty million dollars in federal and state grants, assisting our State’s employers and workers connect through appropriate job training programs. A vibrant employer base in our Township helps in many areas from strong employment to more tax revenue. I will work towards not only bringing more businesses to our Township but also assisting their employees to improve their skill levels through available grants. Youth unemployment runs over 10% in NJ and with my experience in workforce development I will establish job training programs for unemployed youth in collaboration with area employers. I believe when we lift people up, we lift our economy that benefits everyone.
As a resident of an active adult community, I am aware of the enormous talent that the retired residents living in our communities possess. Many of them are looking for stimulating activities to spend their time on. I plan to harness their talents and experience, and structure new programs from tutoring school students to mentoring small business owners. What a better way to help our fellow citizens than sharing one's knowledge and helping them succeed!
A dollar saved is a dollar earned. I have a keen eye for efficiency improvements in business processes. From digitizing records to automating manual processes to communicating with constituents, I believe technology would greatly improve the township. Coming in with a fresh set of eyes, I am hopeful of gaining more economic efficiencies and improving services to our residents using technology.
If I am fortunate to get your support I will govern with transparency and integrity. As a retiree, I will be more available for you to reach me anytime and it will be my privilege to listen to your concerns and address them in a timely manner. I respectfully ask for your vote to help me join the current administration and continue their good governance. Please vote for me and the entire Column 1 on November 5th. Thank you.
