Eight-year-old Amina was living in a mold-infested basement apartment in an urban area with her mom and her sister. It was all her professional, hardworking mother could afford. Moving into a Habitat home transformed her life. She was amazed that there were no bars on the school windows and that the swings on the playground worked. School became challenging for this gifted and talented child. She no longer had asthma. Today she is completing her college education and will become a special education teacher. She will pass along the “hand-up” given to her family to so many families through her future profession.
Franklin Township recognizes the positive impact that Habitat’s partnership homebuilding model brings to the local community. As volunteers work alongside an individual or family willing to invest 250 – 500 hours in building a strong, stable, self-reliant future, a sense community develops. Bridges of understanding are built as individuals who may not have encountered each other in day to day living share stories and support each other. To date, 21 Habitat homes have been built in Franklin Township.
December 3rd is Giving Tuesday. A gift to Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity is an impactful way to strengthen your local community. Decent, affordable homes build strong, self-reliant families. Strong families build strong communities for us all. Statistics show that homeownership leads to better health, greater educational achievements for the children and also provides improved safety and security. Since 1991, 53 low- or moderate-income individuals and families have partnered with hundreds of community volunteers building their Habitat Homes. RVHFH extends an affordable mortgage based on income level to each Habitat homeowner, which enables the family to build a strong, stable, and self-reliant future in the local area. Each of these homeowner(s) has a powerful story of transformation like the one above.
Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity relies on the financial support of the local community to make an impact in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. Giving Tuesday follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It focuses on harnessing the power of social media to encourage people around the globe to give back to their communities during the holiday season. Anyone can be a part of this movement, including individuals, families, and organizations.
This holiday season, please support Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity to help make a difference in the lives of others. Your gift will open doors for more children in our local area to thrive.
