SOMERSET, NJ - A local man says if not for his health benefits from Amazon, he may not have become a father.
Sebastian Zaremba of Franklin and his wife started trying to have a baby ten years ago, and nothing worked for them. Eventually, the Zaremba's decided to try in vitro fertilization (IVF), but after further research, they determined the cost would be too high.
Zaremba left his job at a small roofing company to start a career in Amazon’s nearby Edison fulfillment center. A move that would eventually prove life-changing.
“My wife and I would not have been able to grow our family and welcome our son if it were not for Amazon and the benefits they offer to all employees," Zaremba said. “SJ lights up the room with his smile. Whenever he sees me nobody else matters because daddy is home.”
Zaremba says Amazon paid for IVF treatment and paid him for six-weeks of paternity leave, a benefit offered to all full-time employees.
According to Amazon representatives, the company also offers up to 20 weeks paid parental leave, and other programs designed to help employees manage their work-life balance, such as Ramp Back, Leave Share, and flexible time off.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic a new family care program, which offers 10 days of subsidized child or adult care now through October 2, according to Amazon representatives.
