SOMERSET, NJ - A "quality of life" detail set up on Hamilton Street led to the arrest of a bike riding New Brunswick man who had 10 folds of heroin in his possesion.

Marcelino Ortiz, age 32, of New Brunswick was charged with third-degree possession of heroin following an Aug. 29 arrest, according to a news release. 

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson says the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force, along with the Franklin Township Police Department Crime Suppression Unit conducted a “quality of life” detail in the area of Hamilton Street.

"As a result of this detail, detectives observed Ortiz on a bicycle in a parking lot on Hamilton Street," Robertson said in a statement. "Defendant Ortiz was seen meeting with several individuals and was subsequently approached by Task Force detectives."

Ortiz was placed under arrest and during a search, police found him to be in possession of 10 glassine folds of a substance believed to be heroin, police say. Ortiz also had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. 

Robertson says after Ortiz was turned over to Middlesex County jail after he was processed and charged.
