PISCATAWAY, NJ – A Piscataway man pleaded guilty to charges of killing a 59-year-old Wayne man and injuring a passenger in an October car crash, said Middlesex County Prosecutor, Andrew C. Carey.
According to a Thursday news release, Darius Griffin, Jr. 25 pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, assault by auto and driving while intoxicated in the Oct. 14, 2017 crash on River Road.
Investigators found that Griffin crossed into oncoming traffic crashing his 2016 Nissan Altima head-on into a 1999 Ford Ranger pick-up truck driven by Steven Kemmlein, said Carey.
Kemmlein died from injuries sustained in the crash, and Griffin and his passenger were treated for injuries at area hospitals, said Carey.
Griffin reached a plea agreement with the prosecutor’s office and will be sentenced to 8 years in prison, said Carey. He will have to serve 85 percent of the term under provisions of the No Early Release Act before becoming eligible for parole.
