Two Dead After Car Goes Off GSP into Rahway River

CLARK, NJ — Two people are dead after one-car crash on the Garden State Parkway Friday morning around 10:45 a.m. The names of the victims have not been released.

“The vehicle went off the road on the right-hand side and was submerged in water. The right two lanes of the parkway are closed for investigation and will be for some time,” Lieutenant Schafer of the New Jersey State Police said at about noon.

According to Clark Police Chief Pedro Matos, the car was in the river upside-down.

“Several Clark officers and troopers went into the water to get the occupants out,” Matos said.

The northbound side of the GSP experienced heavy delays due to emergency crews occupying several lanes of the roadway. 

Emergency personnel from Clark, Cranford, Union County and the New Jersey State Police were on the scene.
