The Franklin Township Police department responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a hit pedestrian on Amwell Road near Doria Road at around 9:53 pm.
Responding officers discovered an unconscious man and rendered first aid until emergency personnel arrived according to authorities.
The man was transported to a local area trauma center where he was later pronounced dead due to his injuries, according to authorities.
Police will withhold his identity until his next of kin is notified.
The roadway was closed while a joint investigation was initiated by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and FTPD's Traffic Safety Bureau, according to authorities.
"The initial investigation revealed that Kia Sorento, operated by a Somerset resident, was traveling eastbound when it struck the adult male who was attempting to cross the roadway," police said in a statement. "The factors that contributed to the crash are currently under investigation."
