SOMERSET, NJ - Police say a man from Hillsborough crashed his car into a utility pole and overturned his vehicle while driving under the influence.
Rashid Franco, 31 from Hillsborough was charged with driving while impaired and careless driving, according to police. Police received a 9-1-1 call on Feb. 2 at 3:17 am reporting a car crash on Hamilton Street in the area of Old Hamilton Street.
Responding officers found a 2017 Nissan overturned and a downed utility pole in the roadway. Police say Franco was outside the car, walking around following the car crash.
"Franco sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation," FTPD Lt. Phil Rizzo said in a statement. "During the investigation, it was determined that Franco had operated the motor vehicle while under the influence. He was charged with DWI and careless driving."
Franco was issued summonses and released at the hospital.
Portions of Hamilton Street were closed throughout the entire day while utility crews repaired the pole and downed wires.
