SOMERSET, NJ - Two cars crashed at the intersection of Easton Avenue and Landing Lane at approximately 7:00 am and caused traffic delays for at least two and a half hours according to police. 

"The initial investigation revealed that a 2006 Toyota Sienna operated by Nohelia Mejia-Martinez, 33, from Monmouth Junction was traveling northbound on Easton Avenue when it collided with a 2002 Dodge Durango," Lt. Phil Rizzo said in a statement. "The Durango was traveling southbound and was operated by Marcelo Dos Reis, 43, of Edison." 

Police say both drivers were entrapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by firefighters from Franklin Township.

"Both drivers and four adult passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local area trauma center for treatment," Rizzo said in a statement. 

The accident is under investigation.

Update: Easton Avenue is now open as of 10:03 am according to an alert from the township. 

Easton Ave and Landing Lane will be closed throughout the morning commute due to a multi-car crash, according to an alert sent out by the township. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. 

Up to six people may have been hurt during the accident according to the Breaking News Network.
