SOMERSET, NJ - Senior Mario Heslop won three events to lead Franklin Township to a narrow overall victory in the NJSIAA Group 4 state track meet Friday and Saturday at Franklin High School.

The Warriors' team total of 44 points was one better than that of second-place Princeton, and Heslop was at the forefront of Franklin's triumph.

Heslop took the gold in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. He ran a 10.56 in the 100, a 21.45 in the 200 and a 47.12 in the 400. Heslop also anchored Franklin's third-place showing in the 4x400 meter relay.

In the 4x400, Franklin clocked in at 3:18.28, with Heslop, Daniel Akande, Brandon Nicholas and Anthony Reeves combining to take the bronze medal in the event.

Asare Bampoe-Parry came in fourth in the high jump at 6-02 for Franklin. Kumi Osei placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.61. Akande was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.55. Joshua McDonald was sixth in the long jump at 21-07.50. Jordan Leake was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 51-01.50.

Franklin's Group 4 triumph came one week after the Warriors took first place in the Central Jersey, Group 4 meet at Howell Township with 78 points, beating out second-place South Brunswick, which totaled 71 team points.

Heslop won four gold medals in the sectional meet--winning the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash events as well as taking part in the Warriors' first-place showing in the 4x400 meter relay. Heslop ran 10.33 in the 100m, 21.29 in the 200m and 47.34 in the 400m.

Heslop, Akande, Nicholas and Reeves combined to run a 3:20.06 to win the 4x400 meter relay in the sectional meet. Franklin's relay team also placed third in the 4x800 meter relay at 8:06.53.

Christopher Hill of Franklin finished first in the 1600-meter run in the sectional meet with a time of 4:21.47. Akande was third in the 400-meter hurdles at 57.10.

Joshua McDonald had a third-place long jump of 21-08.00 in the sectional meet. Jordan Leake was third in the shot put at 49-09.50. Kumi Osei finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.90.
