SOMERSET, NJ - Those who believed Franklin High School’s girls’ basketball team was at the end of their long run may want to rethink. The Warriors aren’t going anywhere.
In fact, Franklin has picked up steam as the season arrives at the mid-season mark.
The Warriors won their third straight and fifth out of sixth game Thursday afternoon with a 51-47 triumph over Gill St. Bernards. The Knights beat the Warriors 60-53 on Jan. 2.
The win gave the Warriors an 8-3 overall record and 6-2 in the Skyland Conference Delaware Division. The Warriors trailed Watchung Hills (13-1, 8-0) for the top spot in the division.
Senior Onoseta Ufuah scored 17 points to pace Franklin and senior guard Keona Schenck added 13. Schenck is averaging 18. 8 points per game and Ufuah 11.7. The Warriors have been playing without Schenck's twin sister Kennady and sophomore Christina Midgette, both out with injuries.
The injuries have given younger players to step in.
Freshman guard Gissel Gamble is one of those players. She scored 11 points against Gill with three 3-pointers.
Gill St. Bernards was led by Caileigh Walsh’s 25 points and Ella Fajardo’s 15.
Franklin will face Bridgewater-Raritan on the road Jan. 28.
