SOMERSET, NJ - Suicide rates among teenagers have been on a rise in the U.S. according to the CDC.
Next Monday, Feb. 11, Nikki Francis of the Wellspring Center for Prevention will present “13 Reasons Why You Should Not Ignore the Signs of Suicide", at Franklin Middle School Hamilton Street Campus (415 Francis Street, Somerset, NJ) from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
"This informative presentation will help parents and students understand the warning signs and risk factors associated with teen suicide and effective ways to enhance communication between parents, educators, and today’s youth," a flier promoting the event reads.
The program is sponsored by the Student Assistance Program of the Franklin Township Public Schools and the Franklin Township Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse.
Organizers say there will be student suicide awareness and visual arts presentations, as well as a panel discussion.
The event is open to all students in grade 6-12, educators, and parents. Light refreshments will be served.
