OLEAN, NY -- Officials at Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce have set the 50th-Annual Clambake for chamber members and guests for Wednesday, June 13, in downtown Olean.
“This festive gathering represents the traditional start of the summer season in our community and offers fun, fine food and prizes,” said Meme K. Yanetsko, the chamber’s COO.
OMNIS Technologies, the presenting sponsor of the Clambake, and the chamber’s 54 corporate sponsors are hosting this landmark numbered event.
“When our clambake committee met and discussed what to do to celebrate the 50 anniversary of this member event, we thought, ‘Why not host it right downtown around and on one of the roundabouts in the newly constructed downtown?’” Yanetsko said. “Yes, we are shutting down one of the major streets in Olean for more than nine hours, however, working with the City of Olean. Traffic will be rerouted and all should go off without a hitch.”
In case of inclement weather, the Clambake will be moved entirely onto the campus of Jamestown Community College. That decision will be announced on June 12 at noon.
Chamber member Good Times of Olean will serve up raw clams, steamed clams, clam chowders, clams casino, and shrimp cocktail. The menu will also include Italian sausage, beef on weck, assorted desserts, meatballs, hotdogs, hamburgers, pasta salad, and more. Draft beer from Sanzo Beverage and Certo Brothers will be available, as well as soft drinks and water.
As it is the 50th-Annual Clambake, some special events are in store, including recognition of St. Bonaventure University’s Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., and Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mark Schmidt; the first 600 people to the Clambake receive a commemorative Clambake mug; and a 25 bottle wine auction with auctioneer Nate Smith. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the JCC Alumni Scholarship Fund at JCC-Olean.
Tickets are $60 for chamber members and $75 for non-members. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact the chamber at 372-4433 or email email@example.com.
