ALLEGANY, NY – The Allegany-Limestone Lady Gators varsity basketball team aims to make up for its Thursday night loss to Fredonia when it plays at Franklinville Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The score for the Lady Gators' final home game had been close, 39-36 in favor of Fredonia, when Lady Gators' head coach Chad Lyter called two timeouts during the last minute.
But the Lady Gators were unable to score, and the Hillbillies sealed the victory by scoring an additional three points.
Lyter said their loss was not due to a lack of work.
“We played hard," Lyter said. "We just didn’t score enough. The name of the game is to score."
Lyter acknowledged there were flaws in the team’s gameplay.
“We went cold in the second half and had a hard time guarding Number 15,” he said, referring to Hillbillies player Nagely Vazquez, who scored 12 points that night.
Tierney Hemphill, one of the Lady Gators captains, scored 10 points, the most for the team.
At the end of the first quarter, things were looking bright for the Lady Gators. They were ahead 11-7. And at the end of the second quarter, Allegany-Limestone was still in the lead 18-15.
But by the end of the third quarter, the Lady Gators fell behind 32-26.
