ALLEGANY, NY -- The Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association will offer facilitator training for its dementia art program, Memories in the Making (MIM), at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, 115 E. Main St., Jan. 19, 1-5 p.m.

This program, open to staff and volunteers at skilled nursing and assisted living facilities and respite and adult day programs, allows people living with dementia to express themselves through watercolor painting with the guidance of trained facilitators. A fee of $25.00 per person covers the cost of the half-day training, all materials and snacks.

A background in the arts is not necessary to become a facilitator.

The benefits to program leaders and participants are numerous and include increased quality of life for residents; improved self esteem; an outlet for emotions; increased attention span and focus, reduced isolation; opportunities for increased expertise for employees, and positive community exposure for facilities and programs.
