Because National Margarita Day is Saturday, three Greater Olean area restaurants -- Don Tequila and Fusion on Main in Allegany and El Sombrero in Olean -- plan to offer their own variations on the drink.

Don Tequila, the Mexican restaurant at 76 W. Main St., offers customers the traditional margarita with the options of having it on the rocks or with a salted rim.

Allegany native and Don Tequila server Rowando noted that Don Tequila's margarita offers a good amount of sweet and sour flavor, as it should. He believes that the flavor comes from a good mixture of ingredients.

“A good margarita always comes with simple ingredients, and it is important to just put everything together in order,” Rowando said.

Because it is National Margarita Day, Don Tequila will offer 12-ounce margaritas for $1.99.

El Sombrero, the Mexican restaurant at 315 N. Union St., offers the traditional margarita as well as flavored options.

The mango margarita, is a popular flavor choice that offers a sweet variation to the drink to go with the traditional margarita taste.

Alyssa, an Olean native and server at the restaurant, said that a key component to a good margarita is the type of tequila used and that El Sombrero uses Milagro.

Though the restaurant is not offering National Margarita Day specials, it does have a daily special: 12-ounce margaritas are $2.99 from 2 to 7 p.m.

Fusion On Main, 115 W. Main St., offers its own version of the drink, one with a sweet and sour taste that is created differently than many other places, explained bartender Kristinia Means of Allegany.

"A key to a margarita is the tartness," Means said. "I get mine from actual lemon and lime juice instead of sweet and sour juice like a lot of people use. I then sweeten it using honey."

Means said honey combats what can be the harshness of a tequila. Since every tequila is different, adjusts how much honey she puts in.

Although Means did not mention a deal for Saturday, she did say that Fusion offer $3 margaritas on Wednesdays.
