OLEAN, NY – A psychic fair scheduled for Saturday at the Fannie E. Bartlett House, corner of Laurens and North Second Street, is sold out, according to events coordinator Gail Feuchter.
The fair is a fundraiser for the historical mansion and will feature six psychics of various mediums including a tarot card reader. Pre-payment fees of $30 were required for reserving the 20-minute readings, scheduled from noon to 5 p.m.
“We want to get more exposure to the house,” Feuchter said . “We want to make the community more aware of the Bartlett House and what we do here to preserve local history.”
Feuchter said her inspirations for organizing the psychic fair were seeing a similar event advertised in Salamanca and from attending readings in Portville, where she noticed an increased interest by the community.
Tours of the building will not be available Saturday during the psychic fair, because six of the nine rooms will be used for readings, Feuchter added.
The Queen Anne-style house was purchased by Frank and Fannie Bartlett in 1891. Decorated in turn-of-the-century Victoriana, the house features seven fireplaces. The Bartlett property also is the site of the Olean Point Museum in the converted carriage house.
“We want to be able to use the house for more events.” Feuchter said.
In August, the Bartlett House was the site of a Pie on the Porch event. Preparations are underway for the annual Victorian Christmas open house, which will feature decorated trees.
