OLEAN, NY -- The Olean Oilers gave the fireworks show to fans a day early during their Monday night outburst against the Genesee Rapids.
The Oiler offense tallied in 23 runs on the day and 15 hits, both of which are season highs, to defeat Genesse 23-7.
Jacob Burlingame had himself quite a day, recording two hits driving in three runs and scoring twice. Allen Murphy homered in the first, giving the Oilers a quick 2-0 cushion which they continued to expand each inning.
The Oilers Kirby McMullen, who was added to the team just two days ago, got the start on the mound and went a strong 5 and 1/3 innings. McMullen struck out six in his debut and walked only one.
After a combination of Genesee errors and great pieces of hitting from the Oilers, the team extended the lead to 23-7 in the final inning giving the Oilers their 10th win on the year.
The Oilers will head to Wellsville Tuesday to take on the Nitros at 5 p.m.
