OLEAN, NY – The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Self Defense for Business People Workshop, featuring Barry A. Broughton, grandmaster of AKT Combatives Academy, on Feb. 23.
Attendees are encouraged to wear normal business clothing to the workshop, which is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. in the third-floor training room of the chamber office, 301 N. Union St.
“It doesn’t matter what you are or what you do for a living,” said Broughton. “You will learn hand techniques, kicks, stances, blocks, and many more reality-based techniques. This is a no-nonsense survival program that can and will save your life.”
The self-defense course is the second in the GOACC’s Lunch & Learn series, which began in September. The remaining seminars, also set for noon to 1 p.m. in the chamber office, are:
- March 2, "Gas + Supply = Electric $" workshop. Kevin Clough of EnergyMark will give an overview of local gas supply and its effect on electric pricing and area businesses.
- March 21. Tyler Threehouse, Esq., partner at Reisner Law Group, will cover topics such as personal estate planning, Asset Protection Trusts, business planning and protection of legacies.
- April 6, "Cyber Security." Greg Lindberg of the U.S. Small Business Administration will present on defining cyber security; the importance of securing information through best cyber security practices; identifying types of info that should be secured and types of cyber threats; defining risk management, and listing best practices for guarding against cyber threats.
- May 16, "Data Security/ Business Continuity." Adam Jester of Southern Tier Technical Services will discuss projecting data.
Admission is free for GOACC members and $10 for non-members.
