ALLEGANY, NY - Deputy Mayor Kelly Granger is running unopposed for a one-year term on Village Trustee.
Last year, Granger was asked to fill a one-year vacancy on the Village Board.
“I have never had any experience in politics or government, but I wanted to be a person that was part of the solution to any of the issues that may have existed in the Village of Allegany,” Granger said.
During Granger's term on the board, the village purchased a new police vehicle, added computers to its police cars and purchased a new sidewalk snow plow. In addition, work to expand and improve the boat launch and dock expand is under way, she said
“Many exciting things are occurring in Allegany,” Granger said. The board is working on water and sewer infrastructure improvements. for the village, she said.
Granger said she is looking forward to a plant and flower show planned for late spring and “Rally in the Valley” in August.
“Rally in the Valley” is a new venture for Allegany, and will involve approximately 3,000 to 5,000 motorcycle riders, she said The event will include motorcycle games and events, a classic car show, craft and food vendors and a fireworks show.
“We are constantly working to improve and advance the Village of Allegany, and I am honored to be a part of this wonderful group. I look forward to continuing my tenure,” Granger said.
Granger, who is the mother of twin 16-year-old girls, teaches nursing at Trocaire College in Buffalo. She has lived in Allegany most of her life. Her hobbies include refinishing furniture, scrapbooking, auctions and antiques.
“I like to consider myself a DIY expert,” Granger said.
Polls are open from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
