ALLEGANY, NY -- Shawn Dubin of Allegany was drafted by the defending World Champion Houston Astros in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball draft Wednesday.
Dubin pitched for Georgetown College in Kentucky this season, where he struck out a school record 128 batters and posted a 9-1 record with a 2.09 ERA. He was also named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics First-Team All-American – the third player in Georgetown College baseball to be named first-team.
"Shawn had an outstanding season this year, and we felt he earned this great opportunity at the professional level," said Georgetown coach Micah Baumfeld. "We are very excited for him. Astros got a great, dominant pitcher. We can't wait to see what the next stage has for him."
In 2016, Dubin pitched for the Olean Oilers New York Collegiate Baseball League championship team, posting a 3-3 record with a 2.50 ERA.
