OLEAN, NY – Police arrested a Killbuck man Monday on charges that he attempted to scam city residents by claiming he neede money to repair a broken car.
Douglas I. Reed, 34, was charged with second degree scheming to defraud, a misdemeanor).
Police said Reed obtained names from porch mailboxes and went to nearby homes claiming to know neighbors. He then would say his car had broken down and he needed money to get home, which he promised to repay, police said.
According to police, Reed was arrested in January of 2017 for scheme to defraud involving a similar story.
