OLEAN, NY – Police have arrested a 21-year-old Olean man on charges related to damages at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church on North Union Street.

Thomas Kissinger was arrested Thursday and charged with fourth-degree arson, third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief, according to police. He was arraigned in Olean City Court before Judge Daniel Palumbo and released under supervision.

Police said church employees who arrived for work on the morning on Feb. 14 reported that someone had broken into the building through its front doors. The workers found several thousands of dollars damage inside the church and saw that a small fire had been set, but no longer was burning, according to police.
