OLEAN, NY — The Olean Public Library will offer curbside lending of materials to patrons, beginning Monday. Additional curbside services include faxing, copying, printing and provision of tax forms.

Curbside services will be offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon.

Patrons can submit requests for books, DVDs, and other circulating materials by phone, email, and Facebook Messenger. Patrons can call the library at 716-372-0200, and if staff are not available, patrons may leave detailed messages with their names, phone numbers and titles of materials they are requesting. Requests may also be done over email (reference@oleanlibrary.org), or by private messaging on the library’s Facebook page. Library staff will contact patrons to set up their curbside pickup appointment times.

The library has developed a safety plan to ensure the health and well-being of patrons and staff, both in terms of the materials being circulated and the process of delivering materials to patrons. Staff will wear masks and gloves in all transactions, including the handling of materials. Patrons will be required to wear masks when picking up materials. When returning materials, patrons should utilize the outside book drop to minimize contact with staff. Prior to circulation, all materials will be disinfected and quarantined for a minimum of 48 hours.

At this time, items for borrowing will only be available from the Olean Public Library's collections; interlibrary loans from other Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System libraries will not begin until a later phase. Holds may not be placed on items in the online catalog at this time.

Only current library card holders will be able to utilize the curbside service. The library staff is hoping to begin issuing cards to new patrons soon.

Due to New York State’s phased reopening plan, the library building will remain closed to the public until staff are notified it is safe to open.
