OLEAN, NY — The City of Olean is compiling its annual list of volunteers to can help persons who are homebound or living on fixed incomes with the chores of shoveling snow and removing ice.

Persons who can volunteer should call Mayor William J. Aiello’s office at 716-376-5615.

In a press release, the mayor pointed out that many residents have trouble meeting the city's code that requires residents to remove snow and ice from their sidewalks following storms. Last year's list of volunteers was light and that "trend" is continuing this year.

"In the past, students from our local schools and churches volunteered to meet service requirements; and others have added their name to the list to help those in need. I hope we can get more volunteers this year. We already have a list with many residents needing assistance,” Aiello said.

“Olean is a great place to live because it is a caring community and fortunately many neighbors take care of those who cannot meet the shoveling requirements without calling my office," he continued. "I thank those people for their dedication and compassion.”
