Olean defeated the Rochester Ridgemen, 13-3, at Bradner Stadium Wednesday to sweep the NYCBL Western Division Finals. The Oilers won the opening game of the series, 6-3, Tuesday at Rochester’s home field in Webster.
The Oilers will face the winner of the Eastern Division finals in the championship series, which begins Friday. The site will be determined by who wins the Eastern Division. The Onondaga Flames lead the best-of-three series with Cortland Crush 1-0. The two teams are scheduled to play the second and third (if needed) games Thursday.
As they did Tuesday, the Oilers built an early lead, scoring four runs before Rochester got on the board with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Olean answered with four runs in the sixth and put the game out-of-reach with another four in the seventh on a Kevin Higgins grand slam.
Ben Flicker and Matt Grace also had good nights at the plate, each driving home two runs. Tyler Robison turned in a strong performance on the mound, pitching seven innings for the win.
