The Olean Theatre Workshop will hold auditions for Thorton Wilder's "The Matchmaker" on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its 702 Washington St. theater.
Wilder’s uproarious farce about love and money in late 19th Century New York inspired the Broadway musical, “Hello, Dolly!” The plot involves rich widower Horace Vandergelder engaging matchmaker Dolly Levi to find him a wife, but the matchmaker has something else in mind.
Meanwhile, Vandergelder's two hapless clerks plan an adventure of their own, becoming entangled with two lovely ladies who mistake them for wealthy socialites. Hilarious complications ensue, but the crafty Mrs. Levi ensures that everything turns out right in the end.
Nine male and seven female roles are available, for ages ranging from teens to 60 or older.
Performances for "The Matchmaker" are set for Feb. 13, 14, 15 and 16.
