PORTVILLE, NY — The annual Woods Walk celebration is among the largest events that the Pfeiffer Nature Center hosts and is a fundraiser instrumental to keeping the center open and available to the community.

Because the center cannot host the walk in its traditional manner, it has modified the 2020 Woods Walk with COVID-19 safety measures in mind. Walkers can choose their dates and times to enjoy the beauty and charm of the Old Growth Forest at the center's Lillibridge Property, 1974 Lillibridge Road, over a 17-day time period, beginning on Sept. 26 and ending on Oct. 12.

To participate, adults must pay a $25 registration fee and children, a $15 fee, by Monday. Every registrant will receive a Pfeiffer Nature Center T-shirt. Registration and T-shirt orders can be completed by visiting the PNC website or by calling the office at 716-933-087.

T-shirts can be picked up at the Pfeiffer Nature Center office, 14 S. Main St., on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27 from 8 a.m. to noon; on Sept. 29, Sept. 30 or Oct. 1 from 10 a.m.to 7 p.m. or by calling the office to make special arrangements.

Persons who would like to support the nature center but you are unable to participate in the walk are asked to consider placing T-shirt orders for themselves and their families or friends.

Two routes will be pre-designated for walkers to choose from: an easy 30-minute walk and a moderate 45-minute walk. Walkers also can choose any of the trails they like for as long as they like. The Lillibridge trails are open from dawn till dusk.

Walkers are asked to follow all COVID-19 social distancing rules that are in place for everyone's protection.

The center also asked that walkers send comments, photos and selfies of their participation to naturalist@pfeiffernaturecenter.org  for sharing on the website.
