ST. BONAVENTURE, NY — The rest of the schedule has not been finalized, but the university's men’s basketball team knows where it will start.
To start the 2020-21 season, the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program will play four games at Mohegan Sun, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. The university has not yet made an official announcement.
The multi-team event will be held in Uncasville, Connecticut, and the Bonnies will play Vermont, Stephen F. Austin, Towson and an opponent to be named later. Dates and times for the four matchups have not yet been announced.
And, according to SBUnfurled, SBU and Siena College are in discussion about playing the annual Franciscan Cup at Mohegan Sun since both programs will be participants in the event.
The Mohegan Sun will bring at least 30 college basketball teams from seven conferences to its bubble-like environment for non-conference games starting on Nov. 25 and ending on Dec. 6
Games will be played in Mohegan Sun Arena, which served as a bubble for mixed martial arts and boxing events over the summer. The event will essentially be a mirror image of the NBA postseason, which had been conducted in a bubble due to coronavirus at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Each team will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival in the bubble and will occupy designated floors in Mohegan Sun’s 34-story resort-style hotel, according to Forbes. The hotel’s convention center will be converted into a practice facility, and some games could be played there as well.
The Atlantic 10 Conference portion of the Bonnies’ schedule has not yet been released, but pairings were announced in July. The Bonnies will play home games against Dayton, George Mason, La Salle, Virginia Commonwealth University, Duquesne, Richmond, St. Louis, George Washington and St. Joseph’s.
SBU is slated to play conference road games against Richmond, Fordham, UMass, Rhode Island, Duquesne, Davidson, St. Louis, George Washington and St. Joseph’s.
