State and local primary elections for Republican candidates will take place Tuesday. Polls will be open from noon to 9 p.m.
Topping the ballot in the Greater Olean area is the primary for State Senator in the 57th District to fill a one-year vacancy created by the resignation of Catharine Young.
George Borrello and Curt Crandall are vying for the Republican nomination. Democrat Austin Morgan went unchallenged during the petition process and will face the winner of the Republican primary in the Nov. 5 election.
In addition, Republican primaries for county legislator will be held in Districts 1, 7 and 8. Other GOP primaries will take place in City of Olean Wards 2 and 6.
City of Olean voters will choose three candidates from the four individuals on the ballot for County District 8 legislators: Kelly J. Andreano, Brian J. George, Frank H. Higgins and Richard C. Smith.
In the District 7, which includes Hinsdale, Humphrey, Ischua, Town of Olean and Portville, voters will chose two from the following four candidates: Eric M. Firkel, Danny M. Hall, Kip A. Morrow and James J. Snyder Jr.
In the City of Olean’s two alderman contests, Kevin D. Bartholmew is running against Jason M. Panus in Ward 2, and Peyton D. Kunselman is facing off against Nate D. Smith is Ward 6.
