Statewide Organization Tabs Olean Mayor for Committee Post

OLEAN, NY -- Mayor William J. Aiello of has been appointed to the executive committee of the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials, James Miccio, mayor of the Village of Fishkill and president of the Conference of Mayors, announced Tuesday.

"Mayor Aiello is a recognized municipal leader with vast experience as a local official,” Miccio said. “His background and knowledge will be a strong asset as NYCOM works to implement our statewide agenda.”

Aiello has served as Olean mayor since 2013. He was re-elected to his second term last year. He spent 32 years as an Olean police officer and six years as a Cattaraugus County legislator. Aiello has received the Youth Officer of the Year Award from the State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association, where he has held the positions of executive director and president, among others.

The Conference of Mayors is the statewide association representing New York's cities and villages that provides local government officials with legislative advocacy, legal guidance, technical assistance and municipal training.
