ST. BONAVENTURE, NY — In the spirit of Halloween, the TAPinto Greater Olean staff got together to discuss their favorite movies of the season.
Patrick McCormack’s Pick: House of A 1000 Corpses. It is an ode to classic slasher films of the '70s. Director Rob Zombie harnesses a peculiar brand of horror in his directorial debut. Mixing blood, gore, damsels in distress and drug fueled scenes, Zombie takes the viewer on a trip that is a rarity in contemporary horror. If you are a fan of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this movie is for you.
Ashley Gallagher’s Pick: Donnie Darko is my favorite Halloween movie. It is nothing short of a creepy psychological thriller. Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance is eerily thought-provoking and brings a sense of a warped reality that makes you question what is real and what is not real.
Cameron Hurst’s Pick: Mine is the Halloweentown trilogy. Those movies were really well done, and gets you in the Halloween spirit! I loved Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Aggie because she reminded me a lot of my own grandmother. I still think they should’ve stopped after the first two. The last one simply did not live up to how good the first two were!
Dasia Brim’s Pick: Silent Hill is my favorite Halloween movie because it is one of the few movies that actually scares me. I can watch it more than once without getting bored. There is one scene of a monster with a metal triangular head carrying a big sword and when I saw that as a 13-year-old, it scared me out of my mind.
Hannah Legacy’s Pick: I absolutely love the movie Silence of the Lambs. I love Hannibal Lector’s cool, calculated gaze. Anthony Hopkins did such a good job portraying the character! He could pass as a relatively normal person, but he’s a serial killer; this results in a truly unnerving horror villain.
Happy Halloween from the TAPinto Greater Olean staff.
