The Cattaraugus County Health Department confirmed three additional cases of the coronavirus Thursday, bringing the county’s total to 66.

Since May 15, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county has grown by 16, and one person has died. There are 17 active cases in the county; 46 individuals have recovered.

The 64th confirmed case is a man who lives in the northwest quadrant of the county, according to a health department press release. The man came into close contact with a known COVID-19 positive individual and experienced a fever, cough, shortness of breath and body aches. He was tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday, and his COVID-19 positive result came back Wednesday,

The 65th confirmed case is a woman who lives in the northeast quadrant of the county, according to the press release. She is a health care worker at a nursing home in Cattaraugus County and was tested for COVID-19 on May 22 as part of a New York State requirement that all nursing home employees be tested twice weekly. Her COVID-19 positive result came back on Wednesday. The woman has been asymptomatic.

The man reported being asymptomatic, but was tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday. His COVID-19 positive result came back Wednesday. 

The department has begun a thorough contact tracing on the individuals.
