Rep. Tom Reed, a close ally of President Donald Trump, does not often disagree with the Republican National Committee. Nor is he likely to defend CNN. But that’s exactly what happened Wednesday.
Reed's out-of-character actions came after RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and other GOP leaders criticized CNN for failing to televise the opening statement that Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham delivered prior to Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz testimony.
The congressman who represents the Greater Olean area offered a simple response, explaining why he felt CNN had decided to air his interview with anchor Poppy Harlow instead.
“The facts here are clear. CNN wisely chose the prettiest face to put on air,” Reed said. “Plus, as one of the first five members of Congress to endorse President Trump, I see no bias in CNN putting me on TV rather than Graham. Other networks need to get on board and recognize that if you want huge ratings book me. If not, Lindsey Graham is always available.”
