OLEAN, NY — Officers from New York State Police Troop A arrested two men on separate counts of criminal drug possession over the weekend. One incident occurred in the city; the other, in the town. 

Saturday, troopers stopped a vehicle on Pleasant Avenue in the city for traffic violations. After noting the odor of marijuana in the vehicle, the troopers performed a search, which revealed that passenger Lawrence C. Smith Jr. was in possession of approximately 2.5 grams of cocaine, according to police.

Troopers charged Smith, 24, a Buffalo resident with criminal possession of a stimulant. Smith was arraigned in the City of Olean Court and released without bail. Troopers issued Smith traffic tickets; he must appear in city court this month.

Sunday, troopers stopped Ryan D. Dinkins on Route 16 in the Town of Olean for traffic violations and while interviewing the 26-year-old Franklinville resident, noticed an odor of marijuana in the vehicle. Searching his vehicle, the troopers found Dinkins to be in possession of 70 grams of marijuana and two wax envelopes containing cannabis concentrate. They arrested Dinkins and charged him with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of marijuana.

Troopers processed Dinkins at the state police facility on Homer Street and issued him an appearance ticket. Dinkins is set to appear in Town of Olean court this month.
