OLEAN, NY — Two Allegany County students recently received scholarships from the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Zachary Sortore, a 2015 Houghton Academy graduate, received the Pat McGee Nursing Scholarship.
The $500 scholarship is given to traditional and non-traditional students from the 57th State Senate District, which includes much of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, who are pursuing nursing degrees. Established through the Pat McGee Endowment Fund, the scholarship memorializes the 57th district’s late state senator.
Sortore will be attending Roberts Wesleyan College.
Adalia Bilotta, a 2016 Cuba-Rushford Central School graduate, received the Kaleigh Wilday Scholar Athlete Award.
This scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to a scholar athlete who is part of a scholar-athlete team during her or his senior year. The Cuba-Rushford Athletic Awards Committee chooses the recipient.
The Kaleigh Wilday Endowment Fund, established by Cuba residents Ward “Skip” and Greta Wilday in memory of their daughter, makes possible this annual scholarship. The Kaleigh Wilday Fund also makes possible annual grants to a number of youth-related programs including the Cuba-Rushford School District Alaska Trip Fund, which helps students take educational trips to various locations in the U.S. or other countries.
Bilotta will be attending Kent State University to study biology/pre-med.
Donations to the Pat McGee and Kaleigh Wilday endowment funds can be made at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, 301 N. Union St., Suite 203, or online at cattfoundation.org.
