Week Six Looms for Greater Olean Teams

Local football teams will have a challenging week.

On The Gridiron:

Allegany-Limestone bounced back in a big way with a win last week. The Gators were the only Greater Olean Area football team with a win in week five, beating Gowanda/ Pine Valley 40-6 on the road. Allegany-Limestone ended their two-game skid, improving their record to 2-3 with the win. The Gators will have a tough conference road game with Falconer/ Cassadaga Valley on Saturday. Both teams have a 1-1 record in league play. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Falconer.

Olean suffered another loss last week, falling to 2-3 on the season. The Huskies have not surpassed the 14-point mark in three straight weeks, resulting in three consecutive losses. Olean will look to rebound as they celebrate their homecoming Friday with a non-conference game against Depew. The Wildcats’ high-powered offense will pose a threat to the Huskies who are looking for a win on homecoming.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at  Bradner Stadium..

Portville was routed 54-3 by Frewsburg-Randolph last week for the team’s fifth loss of the season. The winless Panthers have been outscored by their opponents 174-27 and have two shutout losses this year. Portville will travel to Buffalo to take on Nichols Saturday afternoon. The Vikings are (0-3) this year, which gives the Panthers another great opportunity for the team’s first win.  Kickoff will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Nichols High School.

Cuba-Rushford is the only Greater Olean team with a winning record. They sit at 3-2 on the season, taking a blowout loss last week to Haverling. The Rebels will be at home again this week. This time, they will host a conference opponent in Bolivar-Richburg on Friday. A win for the Rebels will put them in a great position in league play.  Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Bolivar.

Grandpa Practiced Sustainability

My grandpa was of the Depression Era. Sustainability wasn’t “a thing” back then — it was just the way you lived. Though he was raised in a time when you were thankful to be able to put a good meal on the table, he likely had a standard of life that we would consider average or middle class today. He didn’t grow up in a slum or shanty town, but he did understand the ...

However, the Bonnies historic season is nothing for the team to ...
