OLEAN, NY — The third Saturday in September started out in the 30s, but that did not stop vendors or customers from being at the weekly Saturday REAP Farmers' Market under the shelter at Lincoln Park.
Nor did it stop two members of the Zonta Club of Olean from sitting at a table outside the shelter, conducting a voter registration drive and providing educational materials.
Members Mikki Cole of Alma in Allegany County and Sue Moricca of Olean said Zonta Club members will be staffing voter registration drive tables at various sites in the area until Oct. 9, the final day for mailing in voter registration forms.
On Friday, Zonta members staffed a voter registration drive in front of Community Bank at 201 N. Union St. Both sites, Cole pointed out, are within a quick walk of the Olean Post Office.
Both women are employed in local school districts. Cole teaches sixth grade science and reading courses. Moricca is the front office receptionist at Olean High School.
In this time of pandemic and schools reopening under new norms, each woman said she witnesses cooperation from students and district employees.
Cole said her students adhere to mask requirements.
Moricca said people are "figuring it all out."
