ST. BONAVENTURE, NY — Ed Bysiek invites the university community to come together Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. while he hosts a virtual DJ set from his living room.
“Music has been proven as a means for helping people deal with difficult situations,” Bysiek said, noting the negative mental health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on his students.
“This event is really about trying to bring people together in a positive kind of way and unite them over music,” Bysiek who has been a DJ since 1999 and goes by the moniker of Dylan Stone, said.
An adjunct faculty member who teaches accounting and finance courses, Bysiek has entertained at St. Bonaventure events for 20 years and also has done weddings, dances, graduation parties and in bars and clubs.
Friday's event will be his first virtual DJ set, and his playlist will be a mix of genres and eras, including hip-hop, dance, the 1970s and 1980s and classic rock.
Student Activities is the host of the event, which can be accessed on the St. Bonaventure Richter Recreation Center Facebook Page. Viewers can see Bysiek DJ-ing his set as if it were a live event, but the sound will be directly linked to the stream.
Persons outside the university community also are invited to join the event, which will be interactive. Viewers can comment on the video, and Bysiek will respond. And various social media giveaways for St. Bonaventure merchandise at the bookstore also will be featured .
People listen to music and connect to the songs, he said, noting he wants people to be able to have a couple of hours to escape the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic with others.
"This event is really about trying to bring people together in a positive kind of way and unite them over music,” he said.
