OLEAN, NY — The Southern Tier Biennial, featuring contemporary works by 28 artists, will open in two locations Saturday.
The first reception starts at 3 p.m. in the Center Gallery at Jamestown Community College Campus and will include an awards ceremony and light refreshments.
The second reception will start at 4:30 p.m. in the Tri-County Arts Council Gallery at 110 W. State St.., and will feature hors d'oeuvres and happy hour refreshments and live entertainment by Louis DiPietro.
Both receptions are free and open to the public.
Artists whose works are featured are Sarah Baker Michalak, Myles Calvert, Robin Caster-Howard, Ryann Cooley, Eric Elwell, Tracy Feigl, Barbara Fox, Lindsey Glover, Michael Mykola Haleta, David Higgins, Donald Hill, Calvin Hubbard, JW Johnston, Colleen Kelly, Trenton Lutes, Marilyn Martin, Sally Ann Miller, Lillian Thiell Milliman, Barbara Mink, Amanda Perry Oglesbee, Catherine Paniebianco, Kathleen Quinn-Leslie, Kari Roslund, Werner Sun, Anna Warfield, Michael Weishan, Kevin Wixted, and Hope Zaccagni.
To assemble this exhibition, jurors Judy Barie, who is the Susan and John Turbern director of VACI Galleries in Chautauqua Institution, and Evelyn Jones Penman, assistant director at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University, reviewed 160 works submitted by artists living in the nine New York State southern counties in the Southern Tier and Western New York.
The Tri-County Arts Council collaborated with Jamestown Community College and the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation through the sponsorship of the F. Donald Kenney Foundation to produce the exhibition, which will remain on view in both locations through Nov. 1.
