OLEAN, NY — Lauren Kirchmyer and Melanie McGovern of the Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York will speak about finding trustworthy businesses, brands and charities during the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce’s virtual “Lunch and Learn” event on Tuesday at noon.
“BBB will show you how they evaluate charities against 20 standards of accountability, which cover governance and oversight, finances, fundraising and solicitations," Kirchmyer, a marketing specialist, said. "Also learn about the most common scams happening in our area and how you can learn about/report them using BBB’s Scam Tracker.".
Erica Dreher, GOACC member services manager, added: “Scammers can use charitable causes to tug on your heartstrings, so it is important to stay vigilant as you try to do good. Donors also need to be on guard when responding to appeals in the wake of a disaster.”
Lunch and Learn workshops are conducted by local business experts, chamber members and associates of chamber partners. The workshops take place throughout the year. The next one — Say it Right! Personal Enrichment Hour — will feature Nancy Phillips from the Olean Toastmasters and will be scheduled for sometime in June.
For more information or to make a reservation, contact the chamber at 716-372-4433 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
