OLEAN, NY– Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its first Lunch and Learn session of its 2019-20 season for Wednesday at noon.
An Oct. 9 deadline looms on sexual harassment prevention training for all employees. Late last year, New York employers were given a nine-month extension from an original Jan. 1 state proposed deadline. Now employers are encouraged to not delay. All employers regardless of size must train their workers, experts say.
Eric Dosch, a human capital management consultant with Paychex (GOACC member), will go over the minimum standards for sexual harassment training and solutions for employers and will provide all the information that the state is looking for in employee training for this mandated training,
Erica Dreher, GOACC membership outreach coordinator, stated, “Under New York State law, employers must provide this required anti-harassment training to all their employees (regardless of whether supervisory or non-supervisory, full-time, part-time, seasonal or temporary) who work at least a portion of their time in New York state.”
This one-hour workshop is designed for the business owner to take the information back to its company and do the training in-house. Attendees will receive model sexual harassment prevention training guidance. Among requirements: The training must be interactive, include examples of conduct that would constitute unlawful sexual harassment, and include information on employees’ rights of redress and all available forums for adjudicating complaints.
The Lunch and Learn sessions are free workshops conducted by local business experts, Chamber members, and associates of Chamber partners. Sessions are given every six to eight weeks.
The workshops are held at the Chamber’s office, 301 N. Union St., and are free for members to attend. Non-members must pay a $10 admission fee. Parking is available near the Chamber office at a city lot off West Sullivan Street.
