OLEAN, NY – Reed McElfresh, who ran on the Republican, Conservative and Independence party lines, is ahead in the Ward 7 Olean Common Council race by four votes, according to unofficial results posted by the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections. However, absentee ballots have yet to be counted.

Reed's unofficial count was 198 votes. His opponent, David J. Anastasia, who ran on the Democrat and Working Family party lines, has an unofficial count of 194 votes.

McElfresh, a business analyst at Iroquois Group in Allegany, said he grew up in a political household; his father had been an alderman and a Cattaraugus County legislator.

If he wins the election, his goal as alderman is to ensure continuing brownfields development in order to enhance job creation and generate revenue for the city.

Anastasia is a former Ward 7 alderman and a former county legislator. He believes his experience on the council would help him focus on the concerns of Ward 7 citizens.
