OLEAN, NY — Taking 57% of the vote, Jason Panus, who ran on the Republican, Conservative and Independence party lines, won the race for the Olean Ward 2 alderman's seat, which has been held by Kelly Andreano.
Panus finished ahead of challengers Tracylynn Huselstein, who ran on the Democratic and Working Family party lines, and Kevin Bartholomew, who had the backing of the Libertarian Party.
Panus, owner of JP Industrial Services in Ward 2, said his biggest goal is to make unbiased decisions and do a good job as his duty to the citizens of Ward 2.
“I am not looking to make a career out of this or politics, but I want to perform it as a duty and do a good job rather than have an agenda or make my name known," Panus told TAPinto ahead of Tuesday’s election. "A lot of politicians want to make some big changes, so they can have their name on them. I am not interested in that. I want to make sure good things happen and good decisions are made.”
As alderman, Panus will serve a two-year term. City aldermen are responsible for representing the needs of their wards and setting policy for citywide issues such as zoning and budget.
