OLEAN, NY – The Department of Public Works announced the annual city-wide leaf collection will begin Monday. No tree limbs, branches or ornamental grass will be taken.
Leaves will be picked from the pavement and loaded into dump trucks in North, South and East Olean, east of North and South Union Street to the Olean Creek and Allegheny River, in West Olean from Union Street to the west city line, Wayne Street, Coleman Street, Cross Street, North Olean and the Boardmanville Area.
A DPW official said there is no way of knowing what day the pickup will be occurring on which street because it’s unknown how many people will be raking leaves.
The city warns leaves that should not be raked or blown into the roadway until the weekend of Oct. 26 to 27 and that parking on streets anticipating collection should be avoided.
A second collection is possible, depending on weather. The DPW asks that leaves not be left in roadways after the first pick-up, because they may cause drainage and plowing interference.
Questions regarding leaf collection can be directed to the DPW at 716-376-5650.
