OLEAN, NY– The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Olean Complete Count Coloring Contest in an attempt to get news of the 2020 U.S. Census to all age groups, households and business groups in the area.

The chamber is working with Dr. Jason Eastman, partnership specialist with the 2020 U.S. Census.

“The 2020 Census, and all censuses that have been completed, generate valuable statistics – population and households, providing the basis for reapportioning congressional seats, redistricting and distributing federal funds which— impact housing, education and more.  We want to get how important this counting is to the younger populations – the ones that would be partaking in 2040 census and beyond,” Meme K. Yanetsko, GOACC chief operating officer, said.

The official coloring page features an image of one of the squirrels on display in Olean and can be picked up at Olean City schools, the Olean YMCA, the Olean Public Library and the Greater Olean Area Chamber office.  Any child can enter the contest.  Completed coloring pages can be dropped off at any of the locations by Feb. 28. Officials also encourage young artists to draw their own Census Squirrel.

The winning picture will be displayed on the 2020 Census posters.  The winning artist will receive a squirrel-themed gift package from GOACC.  All entrants will receive a squirrel bookmark courtesy of the Chamber.
