The Cattaraugus County Health Department confirmed one case of COVID-19 in the county Tuesday.
The new case brings the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus since late March to 196. Fifty-five of the cases have been reported since Aug 21.
According to the news release from the county, the 196th confirmed case is a woman living in the southeast quadrant of the county. She says she was in direct contact with a person who tested positive for the virus. She was tested Thursday after developing a fever and a cough. Her Monday result was positive.
The county has begun a contact tracing investigation for the individuals she has been in contact with and the places she has visited, according to the release.
Health department officials stress people should wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom, coughing, sneezing or blowing their noses.
St. Bonaventure University reported a new coronavirus case on Tuesday. The university is located in the southeast quadrant of the county.
